Year of birth
[edit]No evidence to support 1918 year of birth unless census or vital records can help. Quis separabit? 17:32, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
I don't know who's listing it but the 1909 or 1910 dates are absolutely incorrect. All other sources give 1918.
Some gravestones do actually have an incorrect year listed. The 1908 date on film star Joan Crawford's grave is proven to be inaccurate.
Additionally in one interview I found with her, she called her birthplace 'Petrograd', the city was renamed that in 1914 continuing till 1924, that indicates she was born in the period.
- Firstly, it's true that some people's gravestones can have an incorrect birth year listed — but it's also true that some human-written reference works can list an incorrect birth year too, so what other sources purportedly say isn't necessarily proof of anything. If you want to dispute the year that's engraved on her gravestone, then you need much stronger evidence than just "but IMDb says 1918".
- Secondly, while actresses lying about their age is a thing that happens in the real world, that only works the other way. There's a known phenomenon of actresses claiming to be ten years younger than they really are — but actresses claiming to be ten years older than they really are is absolutely not a thing. It's far, far more likely, in fact, that 1909 is correct and the prevalence of 1918 in many sources is because of "actress shaved ten years off her age during her career", not vice versa.
- Thirdly, there's absolutely no rule that people who were born in cities whose names were changed necessarily have to spend their entire lives referring to their birthplace by the name it had at the time they were born, and are never allowed to refer to it with the changed name instead. So the fact that you can find an interview where she referred to her birthplace as Petrograd instead of St. Petersburg also isn't proof of anything per se — especially given that if she were lying about her age she would refer to it as Petrograd as part of the lie.
- Bottom line, if you want to dispute the birth year that's listed on her gravestone you're going to need much more solid sources than just what IMDb says. Yes, gravestones can be wrong, but so can IMDB — and if they're in conflict, then gravestone trumps IMDb until proven otherwise, not vice versa. Bearcat (talk) 12:19, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
There's some suggestion that the 1909 birth year of her gravestone is mistaken largely since she is born on October 9TH. Really, all other sources list the year as 1918 it has to be the actual year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.93.14.175 (talk) 18:02, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
